SHORTER SHIRTS IN AUSTRALIA
P.A. Cable.
SYDNEY, Oct. 20.
Standardisation of men's and boys' shirts and pyjamas has taeen announced by the Minister for War Organisation of Industry, Mr Dedman. Men's shirts will be cut three inches shorter in front and from three to five inches at the back, according to the wearer's size. Included in the new standardised shirt styles is a short open-fronted coat-shirt to be worn as a coat in hot weather. It can be worn with or without a ti:e. Its length is restricted to 24 inches. Other coat-style shirts and double cuffs are prohibited. Based on pre-war production figures the elimination of double cuffs and the short ening of the length of shirts would mean that a quarter of a million additional shirts could' be made from the same amount of cloth, said the Minister. \7
