v An interesting coincidence in connection with the running of the first train this week to the Clarence River, the new terminus of the South Island Main Trunk railway, is the fact that the first passenger to purchase a ticket and enter the train at the Blenheim station was Miss Barbara (Dolly) Nicholson, of Blenheim, a granddaughter of the late Mrs Alex. Mowat, who performed the ceremony of cutting the ribbon at the Seddon railway station on the arrival of the first train there on October 10, 1902.
