— y — \ Probably the oldest New Zealandborn married couple, Mr and Mrs John George, of Onehunga, celebrated this week the seventieth anniversary of their wedding. As both | Mr and Mrs George were born in Auckland, 97 and 88 years ago re- : spectively, the occasion is claimed to constitute a record for the longest partnership of the oldest living New Zealand- born couple. The marriage of Mr and Mrs George took place in the Church of the Assumption, Onehunga, on October 19, 1872, by the j Rev. Father Paul. Mrs George's mother, Mrs Grimley, was largely responsible for the founding of the 1 Onehunga Ladies' Benevolent So- j ciety, which will celebrate its eightrnth anniversary next year, and is acknowledged to be the oldest women's oiganisation in the Dominion.
