Mclntyre, M.L.C., has been reappointed to represent fhe Legislative Council on the Caw- • thron Trust Board. Mr W. C. Colee has been appointed in the late Dr F. W. Hilgendorf's place as a representative of the Canterbury Agricultural College on the council of the New Zealand School of Agriculture. His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral, Sir Cyril Newall, has accepted the office of patron of the New Zealand Navy League War Council and of the associated branches of the Navy League in New Zealand. Mr T. M. Charters, president of the Canterbury branch, was re-elected chairman. The Government has appointed Mr H. E. Combs, M.P., and Mr E. Brooking to the National Patriotic Fund Board to fill the vacancies caused by the deaths of Mr J. Read and Mr C. Todd. Announcing the appointments, the Minister for Internal Affairs said that Messrs Comhs and Brooking had considerable experience in patriotic and allied work, and their services would be particularly helpful.
The death occurred suddenly at Westport yesterday of Miss Elizabeth Jane Morgan at the age of 67 years. She was well known in theatrical and motion picture circles as the proprietress, with her late brother, of the Victoria Theatre and the Theatre Royal. The two were the donors of an electrical chiming clock in the new town hall. She was a native of Sydney, but had been living for about 50 years in Westport. — P.A. The late Mr William Wilson, whose death occurred at Palmerston North last Friday following a short illness, was the eldest son of the late Mr Augustus Wilson, formerly a wellknown Blenheim nurseryman. The deceased was born at Bradford, Yorkshire, and he came to the Dominion at an early age. He followed the same occupation as his father, and he had held many responsible positions throughout the country. At one time he was in charge of the glasshouses at Massey College, and he has been engaged latterly at Palmerston North nurseries. He leaves a wife, who was formerly Miss Ella Braddock, a sister, Mrs A. McCormick, of Gisborne, and one brother, Mr Raymond Wilson, of Grovetown, to mourn his passing. • Guests at the Criterion Hotel last night included Wing-Commander E. M. Lewis, Messrs L. Robison, M. O'Brien, W. T. Maher, A. H. Lane, A. Bucknell, J. A. Miller, Miss M. Matthews (Christchurch); Mr H. A. West, Miss P. Robertson (Wellington) ; Messrs E. B. McKenzie, J. K. Hearfield (Nelson) . *> T7 .
