VICHY FORCE OVERWHELMED.
800 MADAGASCAR PRISONERS. A communique from East African Headquarters says: "Early yesterday our forces advancing southwards of Ambositra on the rcad to Fianarantsoa were outflanked and attacked, and within three hours overwhelmed a considerable Vichy force holding strong positions at the Ivato crcssroads. We took 50 prisoners, including Colonel Motras, commander of the First Mixed Malagasy Regiment. Losses have been reported on our side. "One of Colonel Motras' battalion commanders, LieutenantColonel Pensereau, had previously fallen into our hands and the total of prisoners taken during the operations around Ambositra now exceeds 800, with two guns and a large number of mortars and heavy machine-guns. "Our troops are now well southward of Ambositra and are clearing the road of the usual
obstructions."-
