Captain A. V. Neal, of the NelsonMarlborough Mounted Rifles, ceases to be seconded to the 2nd N.Z.E.F. Mr F. Mogridge, who has been honorary auditor of the M.A.R.A. for the past 29 years, was re-elected once again at last night's annual meeting. Miss Margaret North, of the C.M.S. in China, is safe in Hong Kong, according to reliable information. Miss North is a daughter of Mr W. B. North, Motupiko, Nelson. Second- Lieutenants N. R. Kearns, J. B. Hargraye, and M. T. Hishon, of the Nelson, Marlborough and West Coast Regiment, have been promoted to be lieutenants. Mr A. A. Whiting was re-elected president of the Marlborough Amateur R.owing Association at the annual meeting at Picton last evening. Mr C. A. Webster was reelected vice-president, Mr A. M. Hale was re-elected secretary, and Mr C. P. Hadfield was re-elected treasurer. A motion congratulating Mr R. P. Furness on his re-election as president of the Automobile Association (Marlborough) and on his comple--tion of 20 years in that position was passed at a meeting of the Automobile Association (Nelson) on Monday night. The death occurred in Nelson on Monday of Mr J. H. Pye-Smxth, who was well-known in the Marlborough district as a commercial traveller. The deceased, who was in his 57th year, was a member of the Expeditionary Force which occupied Samoa in the early part of the Great War. He was keenly interested in kennel club activities. Major (Lieutenant-Colonel, 2nd N.Z.E.F.) G. J. McNaught, E.D., the Wellington Regiment (City of Wellington's Own) ceases to be seconded to the N.Z.E.F., and is posted to the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, with the rank of lieutenantcolonel. Colonel McNaught has been appointed headmaster of New Plymouth Boys' High School in succession to Mr W. H. Moyes, who has resigned. Information relating to the Bishop of Melanesia (Bishop H. W. Baddeley) and certain members of the mission staff was given in Christchurch Cathedral during the Syhod service on Sunday evening by the Primate, who is also chairman of the New Zealand Board of Missions. He had been informed by the general secre tary that Bishop Baddeley, Dr Thomson, Mr Bullen, and the women members of the staff at Malaita were safe. Mr Stibbard had been sent south. The latest advice of Mr Rowleck was that he was in Tulagi en route to Malaita. Tlie Bledisloe Medal, given to Canterbury Agricultural College by Lord Bledisloe, when Governor-General of New Zealand, for annual presentation to former students who have rendered notable service to agriculture, has been conferred this year on the present director, Professor E. R Hudson, B.Sc., B.Agr., Dip., C.A.c'. Professor Hudson was appointed director of the college at Lincoln six years ago, since when he has demonstrated methods which have provided a valuable guide for general adoption. He is a member of the School of Agriculture, and his services are frequently enlisted by the authorities >in matters affecting the technical side of agriculture.
