FINE OF £10
FAILURE TO ATTEND E.P.S, PARADE. A fine of £10 and costs was imposed in the Magistrate 's Court at Wellington on Thursday by Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., on D'Arcy Geary, of Kilbirnie Crescent, who pleaded guilty to failing to attend a compulsory parade of the E.P.S. wardens' group on September 3. The Magistrate said that if people did not attend parades he would have to send them to prison. Counsel for the City Corporation said that Geary was posted to the wardens' group in January. He was notified of the posting and also advised that if he did not attend he must make an explanation in writing. He was notified of the parade, but up to the time proceedings were started had made no excuse. To the Magistrate, the defendant said he had no excuse to offer. The Magistrate said he did not know what to do with such people. If they did not attend parades he would have to send them to prison. The defendant would be fined £10 and costs, and if he did not attend parades in future he would go to prison — he had a duty to undertake whether he liked it or not. 17 _ _
