ANOTHER MIRACLE NEEDED

GRIM NEWS FROM STALINGRAD.

P.A. Gable.

LONDON, Oct. 18.

The Germans have been foreed to divert forces from their all-out attack on Stalinigrad. Increasing pressure by Marshal Timoshenko's northern relief army has eompelled the Germans to switeh part of their armies northward. This is ladmitted by Berlin radio, but all reports indicate that Stalingrad's position is more c-ritieal than at any stage in the two months' lassault on the city. The Russians continue their tenacious defence, but the Germians are clearly determined to occupy the city before the winter closes in, and they are launching ceaseless assaults with everrenewed forces. It is generally agreed that it will be another

Russian "miriaele" if the Germans lare again thwarted. A German communique states that German troobs at Stalingrad broke stubborn resistance and captured all parts of the Red Barricade factory and threw the Russians out of the neighbouring district. Berlin radio stated that the Russians are still desperately resisting in the remaining parts of the Red October factory. The German High Command claims that the Germans continued their attacks in the NovorossiskTuapse sector, and at one point captured 60 fortified positions. The Germans also advanced south of the Terek.
