THE CHAFFINCH.
[To The Editor.] Sir, — Your correspondent, "Interested," gave a very good description in words of a bird-song, and to my mind it clearly establishes the identity of the bird as a chafflnch. There are many of them about the town gardens just now, and they are prominent because of their whistling. There is at least one in the town aviary, though it may be a voluntary captive. As for the size, it is the same as a sparrow, but birds have a habit of ruffling the feathers which is somewhat deceptive.
