HAVELOCK NOTES. PATRIOTIC EVENING.

Express Special Service.

There was a splendid attendance at the social evening held at the home of Mrs Orsman, sen., on Thursday, in aid of patriotic funds. Mrs Orsman and her daughter, Miss E. Orsman, had spared no pains to make the gathering a success. Rooms had been set apart for the card players and another had been cleared for dancing, games and competitions, Miss Orsman being responsible for this part of the programme, of which the young people took full advantage. Community singing was also indulged in with enthusiasm, Miss Orsman and Miss Dorothy Johnson providing the music for this and for the dancing. A delicious suppier was served and ,after thanks had been tendered to the hostesses the guests departed, having spent a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Prize-winners for the euchre were: Mrs Norman Wells and Mr A. J. Brown first, Mrs Schultz and Mr W. Neame consolation. A competition for a plum pudding was won by Mrs A. Forster, and a tea cosy and hot water jug cosy by Miss D. Lawrence. Other competition winners were Miss O. Wells imemory test), Miss M. Bennett (celebrities), Aileen Schultz (musical game), and Miss V. Eeech (names of trees). The sum of £4 5s was realised by the effort.' PERSONAL. Mrs S. B. Smith, Grovetown, spent the week-end with her parents, Mr and Mrs W. Naylor. Miss J. Leggott, Wellington, is the guest of Mr and Mrs W. S. B. Hardy. Mrs Slinn, Nelson, is visiting Mrs Orsman, sen. Mr and Mrs A. J. Wilson, the Hutt, are the guests of Mr and Mrs G. Brown. Mrs C. Mellish and her two children are staying with Mrs G. Hay, Mayfield. y
