PROGRESS AND BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY. Express' Special Service. The annual meeting of the Picton Progress and_ Beautifying Society was held on Priday evening, Mr G. Sutton being in the chair. There was an attendance of 14, which was considered quite satisfactory in view of the short notice of the meeting. A number of apologies were received. The annual report revealed that the financial membership was 96. Activities during the year had mainly been confined to tending the gardens, and in this respect the ladies had rendered a great service. No less than seven of the Society's officers were serving in the forces. The balance-sheet showed that the finances were in a souncl condition, a small credit resulting from the year's working. The election of officers resulted:— Patroness, Mrs G. J. Riddell (reelected) ; president, Mr G. Sutton (re-elected) ; vice-presidents, Mrs T. Flood, Lieut. A. Breayley, Lieut. A. S. C.
