WAIKATO MINES

CONTROL BOARD1 ANNOUNCED. RA. WELLINGTON, Oct. 17. The personnel of the Waikato Coalmines Control Board which was established under the recent emergency regulations was aimounccd to-day by ihe Minister for Mines (Mr Webb). The members of the board are as follows: The Minister for Mines, chairman; Messrs Henry Moi'Peth, chairman of the Waikato Collieries Association; Hendry Luke, managing director of Wilton Collieries, Ltd.; Wm. Parsonage, superintendent, Glen Afton Colli®ries Ltd.; J. Watson, Su perin tendenT, Taupiri Coal Mines, Ltd.; J. Deviin, acting secretary, United Mine: Workers, of New Zealand; T. Hall, secretary, Northern Miners' Union; C1. J. Strcngman. superintendent of State Coal Mines, In the absence cf the Minister from any meeting of the board. the Under-Secretary for Mines (Mr C. H. Benney) will act in his place, and while so' acting will be chairman of ihe board in accordance with Ihe regulations. ^ Mr Webb said that he -was, pleased io be able to a-ccepf without hesitation whateyer the nominations, submitted by the mine-owners, and, in the case of the miners, he had selected from the naines submit-ted the two, men who' had received the greatest support in the nominations made at the1 individual collieries The Minister said that he knew that each member of the board plaeed the mterests of the country above all other considerations at the present time-, and he was convinced that the board would work together as a tearn for the pui'pose of produc;.ng ihe maximum quantitv of coal which was so urgently needed by the Dominion, and under conditions which would make for the greatest measure of safety to the workmen and of fairness and justice to all concerned. "The Government, and the board," added, the Minister, "will be judged by results, and I am c-ontent with this."
