■» Mr H. Anderson mentioned at the annual meeting of the New Zealand. Gglf Association in Wellington on Wednesday, that he was interested in a company which was manufacturing fertiliser from the horns of cattle, which containecl 14 per cent. of nitrogen and 10 per cent. of phosphates. The company would be glad to present the greens research cornmittee at Palmerston North with a bag of the new fertiliser. Mr W. H. Horton, supervisor of the greens research cornmittee, promptly accepted the gift, remarking that the cornmittee had been looking for a fertiliser with such a high nitrogen ccntent. An example of the fiuctuation of property values1 was revealed when an application for a remission of rates on a farm property at Pleasant Pcint came up for consideration at a meeting of the Levels County Council at Timaru. In support of the application, it was stated that the property was sold in 1915 for £3200, the origjnal owner taking a mortgage of £2000 as balance of purchase money. The farm was again sold in 1922, for the sum of £5000. The first mortgagee recently obtained an order of the Court for leave to sell the property, and eventually an cffer of £365 was received. This amount represented the Governmsnt's valuation of the improvements. Aftsr considering the application for remission of rates, amounting to £122, the council decided to take no action.
