IMPLICATION OF EVENTS

AXIS CONVOYS GETTING BY.

P.A. Cable.

LONDON, Oct. 15.

The visit of General Smuts to Britain may acccrd with the portent of the coming inevitable Battle of Egyipt, says the Express in a leading articie. The weight of the air attacks against Malta reveals the importance of the convoys now reinfor-cing Rommel and the presence of U-boat packs off Africa shows how much the Axis desires to interrupt our Middle East reinforcements. Cutting this route has been given priority in German sea-war plans. For Germany and for us victory in Egypt could provide the master-key to winning the war. The House of Commons loudly cheered a statement by. the Prime Minister that General Snmts had eonsented to address the members of both Houses on an early occasion. General Smuts was received by the King at Buckingham Palace yesterday. Later he lunched with his Majesty. He has attended two meetings of the War Cabinet.
