M.A.A. PRESIDENCY
MR. R. P. FURNESS RE-ELECTED. ASSOCIATION 'S 20 YEARS OF PROGRESS. In expressing thanks for his reelection as president of the Marlborough A.A. at yesterday's annual meeting Mr R. P. Furness recalled that he had entered on his 21st year of office last June. He thought it could be claimed that during the last 20 years or so the Association had made real progress. "You have only got to go round the country with an open memory and recall what we used to have to do in fording creeks, negotiating sharp corners, and taking slushy patches warily to realise that, partly as a result of our efforts, the path of the motorist through the district has been considerably eased," he added. He was glad to have been associated with that work, and he wished tb thank the Association for the continued confidence it had shown in him as its president. He would promise that during the coming year he would do everything he could to help the Association along, and would do his best towards keeping it alive for the benefit of the men who would be coming back to resume their activities and membership as soon as the war was ended. (Applause.) 1 Mr Furness was re-elected on the nomination of Mr R. V. Bythell, seconded by Mr W. J. Girling. Both paid a tribute to his work and the keenness of his interest in motoring matters.
