HEAVY BOMBS HIT KISKA

COMPARATIVELY SLIGHT DEFENCE.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 14.

Plying Fortress and Liberator heavy bombers, escorted by Lockheed Lightning and Bell Airacobra fighters, successfully raided Japanese ships and shore installations at Kiska, reports a Navy Department ccmmunique. Fires were observed ashore and damage is reported to ships in the harbour. Only moderate anti-aircraft fire was encountered and no hostile planes were observed in the air. Although receiving rninor damage, all the U.S. planes returned.
