A Washington P.A. cable says that President Roosevelt announced that General Hurley is returning to New Zealand as United States Minister. Dr Cunningham, of the Plant Disease Division of the Department of Agriculture, is visiting Blenheim on Departmental business. The High Cbmmissioner in London, Mr Jordan, has advised that the following New Zealanders who were resident in Japan or Japanese-occu-pied territory have arrived at Lourenco Marques, and are expected to embark from South Africa shoi'tly: Mr D. G. Broughton, Mr C. G. Davis, Mrs E. M. Davis, Mlss J. S. Davis, Mr H. W. S. Mellsop, Mr R. W. Sturt, Mrs H. Sturt and Master M. Sturt. Guests at the Criterion Hotel last night included: Mr G. Hedley Harris (Pohuenui), Mr D. G. Garrick, Mr K. G. Symington (Christchurch), Mr A. ! C. Cummings, Mr E. Esdaile, Mr J. Johnson, Mr T. Gill, Mr G. B. Drew ( Wellington), Mr H. Western (Joraan).
