NEW AWARD
STOREMEN AND PACKERS. The Court of Arbitration has announced a new award for storemen and packers of the Northern. Taranaki, Wellington, Canterbury, and Otago and Southland districts. The award represents the agreement of the parties. Storemen and packers over 21 years of age are to be paid not less than £4 17s 6d a week, an increase of 2s 6d. In stores where one storeman is employed, and he is solely responsible for all inward and outward goods, he is to be paid not less than £5 a week. Rates of pay for youths have been increased by ls 6d all round, and the rate for casuals has been increased by Id, making 2s 7d an hour. The annual holiday has been increased from one week to seven working days, excluding Saturday or the day usually observed as the half holiday. Wages provisions are retrospective to September 4, 1942.
