Threcquarters of the Diego Suarez gairison who fought the British are. now fighting for the Allies. To-day 950 of these French officers and men are numbered among the Fighting French. Of the survivors of the garrison half . joined Generai de Gaulie immediately. Of the remaining half who were brought to Britain a half have since joined Generai de Gaulle, making threequarters of the survivors of the garrison. They were entirely free to make a choice between jodning the Allies and applying for repatriatipn to France. No pressure was exerted upon them.
