STOPPAGE AT MINE

STICK ACROSS POWER LINES. DELIBERATE ACTION. A stoppage at Ihe mine of Kamo Collieries for an hour on, September 30 was caused. through someone placing a stick across electric wires. A short circuit occuired and the wires were burned through, reported the engineer of the North Auckland Electric Power Board, Mr T. R. Oveiton. The board was: considering a letter from Kamo Collieries asking whether the board. was prepared to pay waiting time for the miners in the event of any future power failures. The matter had been placed on the hands of the police, said the engineer. He said. there was an alternative route by which current could. have been supplied, but this failed owing to the telephones being out of order. The board could take no responsibility for loss of production, which in this case amounted to 110 tons of coal, through power defects. All precautions were being taken against similar happenings. The board decided to disclaim liability. — — V-
