RACING AT FLEMINGTON.
P.A. Cable.
MELBOURNE, Oct. 11.
Tuhitarata, in a brilliant Caulfield Cup trial, had an all-the-way win in the second division of the Melbourne Stakes at Flemington on Saturday. He has yet to prove his ability over one and a half miles, but showed no signs of weakening at the end of Saturday's race. Abazed, who was second, made a garne effort and en-
hanced his Derby and Melbourne Cup prospects. Pandect made a promising display, but El Golea was disappointing. Great Britain pleased his Derby and Cup admirers by winning the first division of the Melbourne Stakes, but The Trapper and Cacique as minor place-getters discounted his form to some extent. Velocity, who was fifth after Tranquil Star, made a falir effort. Skipton showed a return to his best form in a brilliant effort in the Stand Handicap. Fifth last among the 23 runners five furlongs from home. Skipton finished fast and beat Hestia in the last stride. Koorenbeen was a fair third. Wilson gave a disappointing display. The V.A.T.C. committee to-day announced that the possibility of a big field in the Caulfield Cup had been considered. Various suggestions had been considered and the committee announced that it had reluctantly decided that, should the acceptance prove too big some of the acceptors might be scratched at the committee 's decree.
