AWATERE GREEN OPENED. E'ATURDAY AFTERNOON'S FUNCTION. Despite the rationing of petrol there was a very large attendance at the Awatere Bowling Club's green on Saturday afternoon for the official opening ceremony. In clusion, he appealed to the members to make the 1942-43 season a record one, and expressed appreciation of the work carried out by the club's supporters between seasons. On behalf of the Marlborough Centre the president, Mr A. W. O. Renner, congratulated the club on the appearance of the green and surroundings. He remarked that as the district was shortly to have a daily train service the Centre would do its utmost to arrange for a f-ull foaturday's play at an early date, and eoneluded by wishing the club an enjoyable and successful season. The first jack was thrown up by Mrs H. J. Gluyas, wife of the hon.
