MR E ,F. HEALY'S OAREER. WELL-KNOWN MARLBURIAN. Mr E. F. Healy, M.P., is 59 years of age and was born at Tua Marina, whcre he was edncatecl at the State school. He is well known in all paris of the pirovinoe, a's he has i-e-sided hcre most of his kfe. He spent some 16 .ycars at the blncksmithing trade in Marlborough and Oantorbui'y and was also engaged in the cycle importing business when the cycle trade was at its height. Later lie entered into bnsiness in Blenheim as a stock and station agent and general auctioneer and worked up a very successful business, which was ultimately taken over by Messrs I)algety and Co., Ltd., Mr* Healy agreeing to spend five years in the firm's
employ as auctioneer and in charge of the stock, wool, aird general agency departments. However, beforo commencmg \vi tli Dalgety and Co., Mr Healy toured Australia and, on tlie oompleticn of his terni witii the firm he enjoyed a- couple of years retirement, after which he purchnsed a large property near Canvastown and specialised in the fatteniiig of stock. Some eight j-eans agp, he leased- the property to his sons and, for health reasons, took up his residence in Nelson, but be returned tc Blenheim a couiplc of years ago. Mr Healy has had a fairly wide experience of local bodvr work as a meniher of the old Peloriiis Roacl Kuoaril and of the Wairau Licensing Committee, and he is at present a member of tlie Wairau Hospital Board. He has alwajrs been keenly interested in politics and was secretary to the late Mr John Dunean's Committee. In sporiing matters he is an old Marlborougli and South Oanterbury Rugby representative, and he was for 30 j'cars a popular referee. He is a past president of the Pelorus Racing Club and tlie. Nelson Motor Cycle Club, a steward of the Nelson Jockey and Trotting Clubs and secretary of the old Wairau Trotting Club. He was also a member oi: the Marlborough Rugby Union for many years; and introduced cycle racing into the province. In addition he was a. successful owner of both racing and trotting horses, and in I'eccnt years he has aeted rfs hon. secretaiw to the "Wairau Valley and Pelorus Racing Clubs and a eonimitteeman of the Mairlborough Trotting Club. He has always been a' membeir of the Nelson and Blenheim Bowling Clubs since 1906. Mr Healy this' morning was the recipient of shoals of corigratulatory telegrams from all over New Zealand.
