THE PREMIER'S REGRETS
WILL CONSULT HIS COLLEAGUES. WELFARE OF COUNTR Y PLACED FIRST. The ' following statement was made by the Prime Minister tate last night: — ' ' The people have had their opportunity and have expressed their views. We have worked hard, and have done all that, in our opinion, was best; always placing our country first. The immediate future, so far as the political parties are concerned, is difficult to estimate, and I can only hope t(hat whatever may be the outcome of the situation our country will be the first consideration of Parliament. "When the final figures are' received I will take the first opportunity of consulting my colleagues. Naturally, I regret the result, and extend my sympathy to those good fellows who have fought hard, and who have gone down in the battle. I desire to thank all fhese who have loyally supported us, and I ask them to be of good cheer in their hour of trial. They may rely on us to do the right thing."
