THE OLD ADAM
With the present fashions the eyes inevitably travcl downwards, interest centring in the ankles instead of the faces, but under the new scheme- the eyes will travcl upwards from the shoes to the lightost shade worn, namely, the hat. — -News item, Fash-ion's faith in m-ankind will be shaken, If it's thought that by some crazy color scheme Attention from things mundane may be taken: That 's surely an Idealistic dream ! Oh, surely it would be a revelation If. by weaving liats of hright and striking hue, The girls could hring about a reforniation; But, human nature's human, through] and through! They can alter all the colors of. their dresses, And even unto rainbow raiment soar, But, in spite of all our modern strains nnd stresses, Man '3 still ihe same old Adam as of yore. There 's no man knows the color that her hat is, Or whether she is plump or like a peg, But, hc knows, first glance, how slender or how fat is , The ankle of each passing lady's leg !
