STOLEN CARS.

A paragraph in the annual report of the New Zealand Motor Traders' Association read as follows: — Your oouncil regrets to note that there has latterly been a very great inerease in the number of cars stolen, mostly by irresponsible youths who use them for the pur^ose of "joyridipg." This is a serious matter to the car-owners, and also must prove a saies deterrent if it can not be, checked. Your association has done all in its power possible to check this practice, and lend its assistance in recovering stolen cars; very great suecess has heen aehieved in this way, and a very large proportion of the cars sought for by ,the association during the year have been looated, mostly within a few days. The Act regarding thefts of cars is somewhat lenient. in the opinion of your council, and it will probably be necessary to ask Parliament to provide more severe ]>unisliment for those found gnilty of this practice.
