£800 TAKEN FROM A BANK. DISAPPEARANCE FROM COl'NTKR. A bank in Blackpool wais robbed in broacl daylight a few we-eks ago in mysteripns circnnistances, savs a London paper. The Blackpool bra-nch of the Midland Bank, in Talbot Squar-e, o-ne of the largest ostabl ishmeuts in the town, was being cilosed for the day at noon when an officia-1 of t-he Oorpotation Traniwiys Department went into the huikling with a ba-g oont-aining £800 in Treasury notes and 19;s 4d in small ehange. This he pla-ced at the foot of the counter, and went outfiide to fetoh another ba-g, containing silver, from a motor-van in which the money had been bro-ught. When the officia-1 a-gain -entered the bank the bag. had -disappeared. On each occasion when he had g-one in and o-ut of the bank the door had had to- be opened by a co-mmisionaire a-s the bank doors had been cl-osed, although there were still between 20 and 30 persons in the bank completing their business. Not oue o-f these saw anvon-e with the bn,g that had vanisbed, and the commiissionaire said he had not seen anyone leaving the premises with t-he bag in 1 posses.sion. I ater iu the afterno-on the bag was found in a small ,side street which runs alongside the bank, and only a few yards from its front door. It was handed to- the po-lice, who sent for an offieial of the Tramwavs Department to opou it, as the lock was of a peculia)- and eomplicated charactef. When t-he bag was opened it was found that the 19s 4d was still there. but the Treasury notes had g-one.
