BLENHEIM SOUNDLY DEFEAT NELSON. Blenheim Public Servicei soundly drubbed a visiting Nelson Public Servico team 011 Saturday afternoon at the Show Groumls by 30 points to 4, and thus gained p-ossession of the Massey Shield, which Nelson had held for a ooup-le of years or ,so. A condition of eontests for the trophy is that tlie holders mu-st trave-1 with it. It was far from be-ing Rugby weather, for a howliug nor'-west-e-r was tearing down the field the- whole afternoon, making things unpleasant both for spectators and players. The garne was pl-ay-ed under tlie auspioes of the R.ugbty Union, but was not prodiuctive of much in the- way of gate money, the atte-ndance being extr-emely small. Owing to the strength of the w'ind, four 15 minute spells were playech Nelson having the advantage- of tlie gal-e and the sun for the first session. The local p-ack imm-ediately demonstrated its superiority and soon had the more youthful and lighter' visiting team up agaiiist it. Nelson defended -sucoessfully until just 0-11 tim-e for the ehange over, when Stanton made a good run to ihe Blue line where h-e grassed th (nking he- was over. A free-kick was given against him for hanging on and the bnll was nicely taken by Mclntyre, who made a tricky run and passed to Pinkham. Oreighton reoeived n-ext- and sent Dobson in to soore -a ni,ce try. With the wind behind them after the cliange round, B/lenheim scored rapidly. MeConw-ay, o-n the wing, rau in and scored, after which Pinkham charged through. T11 a matter of minutes later, Crudis, a hefty newcomer who played full-back for tli-e home side, picked up and rau in from half-way. T'he half-time score was 14-0 in Blenheim' s favor. in the next , session, Mcllwraith broke the visitors' "duck" by sending the hall sailing down the wind and over the crossbar1 to re-gister a good field goal. There was 110 othe-r score until th-e ch-ange over, when Blenheim started in again to score. C'lark led the forwards in a good dribbling rush which ended in Ga-mb-le scoring a, try which Crudis converted. Th-en Stanton -scored in a melee ; and Gamble handed F'owle-r the ball to enable him to score. This was converted by Theyers-. Soon after, Stanton dribbled over and Lark t-ouched down. The fina-1 score was 30 to 4. — Mr A. W. Taylor re-fereed.
