FRANCES MORRISON—HARISON COOK RECITAL.
Full details of the p-rogramme to he presented by Miss France^ Morrison (contralto), Mrs- \\ . R . Allen (pianiste), and Mr Harison Cook (bas-so) in His Majesty's Theatre 011 Wednesday niight are advertised today. The programme is oue to comniand attention and it just-ifie-s tlie- anticipatio-11 that a musieal treat will be the p-rivile-ge ^ of the-Marlboro-ugh connuunity. The occasion will be notable for the fact that it will have a farewell eharacter in view of Miss- Morrison' s intention to- set-tle- in Wellington at an early date and also because it will serve to- mtroduee Mr Harison Cook, a distingui-shed English basso, who has a record of many operatic suoce-sses abroad and in Ne-w Zealand. Next montli Mr Cook will sing "Mephistopheles" in the Wellington Choral Union's performance of "Faust" ; this is regarded as oue of his outstanding parts. A Dunedin journal refe-rred to his "Mephistopheles" at the Dunedin Exhibition as follow 5: "Mr Harison Cook was more than a good 'Mephistopheles' ; he gloried in his unholy work. It vas for him that tlie audie-nce so far forgot its good manners as to hold up the- performance with thunderous applaus© and succeeded in gaining a re-pe-tition of the- famous SSerenadc.' The- vsoloist could not b-e blamed : he deserved it." Mrs IV. R. Allen is a worthy associatc of tliese- two- artists-. S-he- holds a high place in the estimation of the Marlborough public. Behind her interpre-tative insight and her unvsual facility of execution there is jrst that to'uch of magne-tism that piardsts must have to eommand their audience. Fro-m the quality of the artists a high stnndard of performance -s-eems. as-sured. The fox plari is at Thomson and Llanfcar's.
