AUCKLAND, Sept. 27. At tlie annual reuriion of the Auckland Post and Telegraph Association, Mr Markman, Secretary to tho Post Office, ro p lying- to a toast, urgod tho younger officers. to quali.1v for promotion by cxami nation. Ho said that during tho past tAvelve to oighteen months there had been a mai'ked improvement in efficiency, ,Mr Carr (president of the Association) said there \A7as no doubt that tho employees of the Department were underpaid. The wages were something like 35 per cent. above those of the 1914 level, while the cost of living had increascd 20 per cent. and morc thon that. Mr Jordan, M.P., referring to the weeklv wage of £3 19s 9d, said it was o most disgraeeful state of affairs. "I am ashamed to be associated with a Parliament which alloAvs this position to be maintained. It is up to every Tnan to stand by the Association and urge his rights. ' ' f
