Patrick Shields, an ex-Indian Arimy officer, was charged at the Polieo Court with the theft of a typewriter valuecl at £17 from a. guest at an hotel, The manager of a typewriting ag'ency gave evidence that on August 3.1st the accused offered to soll fiim a typewriter for £8, The witness recognis,ed it as a machirie reported through the police as missing. He made an excuse and asked the accused to call later, The accnsed sta.ted to the police that he bought the machine from a man named Clarkson for £18, but the man could not be located. The accused pleaded not gujlty and was eommitted for trial. Bai'l was. allowed at £100.
