INSTANCES OF INDIVIDUAL HEROISM.

Mr Murdoch records many instances of individual heroism and numorous cases of the single-handed taking of scores of prisoners. A sergeant rushed between two machine-guns and shot the crews ot both. A corporal worked his way round a redoubt and attacked the officer with his bayonet. The officer fled and fifty inmates surrendered. An'officer, armed with a cane only, entered a dug-out and took 2\J prisoners. , In the final stages of the .struggle men bringing up ammunition lett their mules and participated in the Mr mMurdoch adds: "In few battles have I seen so much reyolvering. Most of the Germans carried revolvers, which they preferred to the bayonet. Good authorities confirm the estimate that two Germans are lying dead on the captured ground for everyone taken prisoner.
