Mr Murdoch records many instances of individual heroism and numorous cases of the single-handed taking of scores of prisoners. A sergeant rushed between two machine-guns and shot the crews ot both. Most of the Germans carried revolvers, which they preferred to the bayonet. Good authorities confirm the estimate that two Germans are lying dead on the captured ground for everyone taken prisoner.
