MURDER TRIAL.
THE KAUNGAROA TRAGEDY
[Press Association.! WANGANUI, Oct. 12. Frank Edward Be^inier was charged at the Magistrate's Court to-day with the murder of Ethel Emma Bennier, his wife. Five other charges of attempted murder were preferred against the accused in connection with the Kaungaroa tragedy. The evidence was much on the lines given at the inquest. A new fact elicited went to show that strained relations existed between the accused and the deceased, due to the former's drinking habits. October 13. In the "Bennier case Sergeant Bourke said that the prisoner, when slightly under the influence of liquor, called at the police station and asked for assistance to make his wife return to him. Upon the witness saying that the police could not interfere Bennier threatened to do for her and also for himself. The accused was committed for trial.
