THE ANTARCTIC.
MESSAGE FROM SIR, ERNEST
SHACKLEaX)!N.
THE ROSS SEA' PARTY
NO REASON FOR UNDUE
ANXIETY
[Pbbss Association.]
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association I^NIDON,O#*: i:.li-; ->- The Daily Chronicles says iE# iSii" .Ernest' Shack!eton cabled,' to Uiihq authorities in London as follows fw^'J have now received full details of th(i position of the lloss Sea sid<&;df niy/ expedition. After careful exainination of the facts, I have come to the conclusion that inhere should be no undue anxiety concerning^ the safety of the men marooned in MaeMurdo Sound. They have ample provisions and fuel for this party for another year. Their clothing should last with care. There are also some blankets at the hut at Cape Eoyds. The non-re-turn of Captain Macintosh and his party by May 6th of 1915 is the only disturbing factor, but it was possibly due to the condition of the ice between Hut Point and Cape Evans. Should anything have happened t Jo them their fate will now have been definitely ascei-tained by the four scientists at CMpe Evans. "I am proceeding by the first ava.il stole boat, leaving 33uenos Ayres or October 9th for England. I will spenc a few days there tt> adjust the affair! of the expedition^ -.tad then will leayt with all haste for Australia personally to lead the Ross Sea relief expedition. I consider that nothing will be gained by the. Aurora leaving New Zealand before the first week in January, as the ici/conditions will be much better than earlier, and a speedy passage will be , possible. My most grateful thanks are due to the Commonwealth and New Zealand Governments for their -generous''help)and sympathy in this time of the expedition's need." *
