Private J. A. Batching, cabling to i his wife, states that he has seen his i son, Bugler Archie Kitching, in hospital,. and mentions-' that Bugler Kitehing is out of danger, and his wounds'are healing nicely. Advice was. received last night by Mrs Jno. Hpunsejl, Howick Roact, that her son, Rifleman Arthur Syd-?. ney Hounsell, \ had been wounded in the right side in France. • H© left New Zealand with.the 11th. Reinforcements. ' '- . ■
Mrs MeMahqn, of Pictou, received word on Saturday that her son, Private W. P. McMahon, was -wounded, in the left leg on th& 16th September. Lieiitenant Swinard, of Oamaru, a nephew of Mr J. L.:Harwood, Picton, has teen killed in faction- in France. Lieutenant Swin.ard: .was nine months at. '.. Second-Lieutenant ■ John Max Sunley'(died of wounds) 'ivns it native pi' Bi^bopdule; Nelson, and was; :twenty■throe years of age. He- was the son of Mr J; M..Sunley, of Westport, and was a^ member of the' clerical staff of the Wo&tpbrt Harbor Board when ho enlisted. •. He went with. the. Fifthj Reinforcements as a/sergeant, but? surrendered bis stripes in order to. get to Gallippli. Subsequently he war given a commission. From information received by the Defence authorities at Headquarters, it appears that tho late Major (Dr) : Martin, of Palmer.ston North, received the wounds which resulted, in his death while attending to tho wounded in a dressing station near the front. During an infantry attack,'a. baa-rage of fire- was placed in front of tho .advancing force, and either, a shell ,burst prematurely on the dress-ing-station, or a chance on© norn an enemy gun exploded there. The Rev. Father Dore, well known in Wellington^ and formerly of Kaikoura aric! Foxton, who Las. becxi "padreing* 5 with the New Zealand Forces, returned to Wellington on Friday by the Mararoa. having returned from. jEngland by the Willoc'hrs.. Father Dore, who won th« Military, Gross for gallantry on tho field, had to limp ashore on'crutches, a sad wr^clc of 'his former' bright, self.
