HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.
The Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, Ist April, 1916. (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot): — Meat.'—.A good demand continues for all descriptions of meat, owing to a short supply. No change in prices for New Zealand. Homo-grown, a lin-ited supply on account of bad { we.-ither. Scotch wethers as high as Is per Ib. Mutton.-—Canterbury, and other brands than Canterbury, 7|d per 11). Quotations are nominal!, Ewes 7£d. Lamb.—Canterbury and other 'brands than Canterbury*, B£d per lb; this season's, 9d. lieef.—Chilled hinds Bfd, fores 7d. Butter.—The market is quiet but steady. Danish, quiet market, per cwt., 170s up to 1745; New Zealand, rmirlrot firmer, lG2s to 1645; Siberian, l^os to lS4s; Argentine, a good de-
Cheese.—The market is steady. Canadian, per cwt., 106s to 108s; New Zealand, market closed firmed with more inquiry, 103s to 104s; United States, 100s up to 103s. llemp.—The market remains firm. New Zealand good fair, per ton, on spot, £47 10s; fair £45 10s; Manila, coarse, £50. Forward shipment: New Zealand good fair, £4Gs 10s; fair, £44 10s; Manila, coai-se, £49. The output from Manila for the week ended Ist inst. -was 25,000 bales.
Wheat.—The market is dull and prices are irregular. Supplies are increasing. Buyers are cautious. Canadian, arrived, per quarter, 61s; loading in April, 575; American, loading in April, sos; Australian, nothing offering here. It is reported' that all wheat is .in the hands of the Government.
Oats.—The market is very quiet. Argentine arrived, per quarter, 295; loading in April. 27s fid. Hop?.—The market is quiet but steady. English, per cwt.. 130s to 150s; California!!, 100s to 120s.
