At the inquest into the death -of William McMillan, whose body was recovered in Kereelah Creek, near the Queensland border, evidence was given that McMillan was a member of a- party of four. The three others returned to Kereelah tlfe day after the party left and reported that McMillan was missing. Death resulted from a broken neck before the
body entered the water, and there
was no evidence to show how tho death occurred. An open verdict was returned. William James was committed for trial for shooting and murdering Ralph Albert Chambers. A row oc-
curred in the navvies' camp at Maralan. The deceased was shot while letting a vehicle through the fence. James was heard to say that he would
shoot the 'first man coming near the fence.
