CEREMONY
SUFFRAGETTE COLORS
[press association.] (R«oeiy©d Feb. .6, 9.35 p.m.) LONDON Feb. 6
' The Ring's visit to H.M.S. New Zealand was noteworthy for the complete absence of pomp and ceremony. j The King first inspected the bakery I and examined the white bread, and recalled that, when he first went to sea, the bluejackets had to put up with weevily biscuits and maggoty flour. He inspected the hydraulic machinery for loading tke 12-inch guns at the rate of three rounds per minute.
The engineer and Commander Turner showed his Majesty, the new machinery and the engine-room. On seeing the mauve, white, and green upholstered gun-room the King remarked that it was more like a lady's boudoir. This led to general laughter, and someone pointed out that they were the suffragette colors. The crew introduced the ship's mascot bull-pup, which has been named "Pelorus Jack."
The King was photographed beneath the shield emblazon«d with the JSew .Zealand arms.
He afterwards inspected the Iron Duke, the George V., and the Queen Elizabeth. The latter is now an inert mass &f ribs and plates. He visited the floating dock to see tho latest submarine.
