CONFERENCE AT AUCKLAND.

Auckland, April 1. At the Trade and Labor Conference, Mr Horning was elected Chairman and Mr Cooper Secretary. Mr Naughton moved that the Conference urge au increase of the land tax and the abolition of any exemption, and a corresponding decrease in the duty on the necessaries of life. An amendment by Mr Rusbrige that there should be an increase of the land and income tax and a corresponding redaction on the duties on necessaries of life which cannot be produced in the colony, was carried. Mr O'Regan wrote suggesting a conference with the Premier to make proposals to the Imperial Government re the settlement of South Africa on humane principles, reserving the gold mine for white labor and keeping the drink traffic in the hands of the State* The lettsr was formally received.
