Sir, —The decision given by the Licensing Bench in the columns _of your journal points to tho necessity that it should be made compulsory to sell all licenses by auction, and the proceeds given to the Borough Council —for example, every seven years all holders of licensed houses should give up their ticket, and this should be offered to public, competition. There would then be no monopoly iv the trade, and all would be on the same footing. Of course it is well known that publicans or those interested cannot see this, and it is also very difficult for those with weak or diseased eyes to see it, but one visit to Shaw's Medical Hall Sight-Testing Rooms will at once be apparent, for there your sight is tested free.
