NARROW ESCAPE OF COMMANDANTS.

London, March 29. De La Rey and a number of Boers I were on the extreme west outside the eastward sweep of the drive. Commandant Liebenburg and several hundred men escaped by imitating the formation of the British moving column. The commandant escaped through a gap on the British right flank. Only twelve Boers were killed. The prisoners, who include Landdrost Meethling, declare that De Wet and Steyn recently visited and conferred with De La Rey.
