Carroll from the Coast last evening he had a conference with the Premier, representative Native chiefs also being present, and taking part in the consultation. Resolutions were carried: Affirming the necessity for temperance teaching in public schools; authorising the executive to appoint an organising agent for Otago and Southland ; viewing with alarm and indignation attempts to force on the colony a system of State or municipal control or ownership of liquor ; and in order to ensure a full vote at the general election on the liquor question the executive of the Alliance was authorised to arrange nominations for an official candidate on behalf of the Temperance Party in all electorates where otherwise there would be no contest. Christchuhch, March 29. It is supposed an attempt was made to burn down the Theatre Royal last night.
