I. Sydney, March 29. It transpires that Lieut. Handcock's widow and three children reside at Bathurst. The wife was unaware of her husband's fate until the news appeared in the papers. He enlisted as . a shoeing smith in the New South 1 Wales Second Contingent, and at the time of his death was veterinarylieutenant in the Carbineers. Major Morant was well-known throughout Australia as a daring and : reckless horseman. He enlisted in i South Australia as a private, and for a i time prior to joining the Carbineers acted as war correspondent for a London paper*
