♦_ THE WAIRAU REGATTA. OFFICERS. Commodores, His Worship the Mayor . of Blenheim, Hon. C. H. Mills, M.H.R., J. H. Redwood, Esq.; Judges, Dr Anderson and T. Watson, Esq.; Umpire, F. W. Dodson, Esq.; Starter, G. Cbeeseman, Esq.; Treasurer, Mr W. Draper; Secretary, Mr W. T. Esson ; Committee, Messrs ! S. Tapp, A. Bentley, W. Girling, J. McKinley, F. Shaw, A. J. Maolaine. The regatta held yesterday on the Wairau River at Spring Creek was one of the main attractions of the holiday, and was fairly well patronised by the public, though the attendance was not as large as that of last year. Good weather prevailed, and the affair, even if only in the nature of an outing, was of an enjoyable character. In some instances the programme was interesting enough, though the only competing crews were representatives of the Blenheim and Picton Rowing Clubs. Probably some outside crews would have been present but for the counterattraction at Wanganui. The Blenheim Rowing Club was very successful, its total winnings amounting to nearly £40. The lion's share of the work was done by J. M. Jackson, the Blenheim stroke, and his rowing was a popular feature of the regatta. The Hibernian Band, under Bandmaster F. Hale, helped considerably to make matters enjoyable; and Host Barr, of the Ferry Hotel, was quite equal to the demands of the occasion. Following are the results :— Maiden Foubs-—First prize, £8 ; 2nd, £2. One mile. Picton R.C.—E. Blake (str), T. Louisson (3), E. Harrison (2), Smith (bow), S. Blake (cox) ... 1 Blenheim R.C.—T.
