With the exception of this forenoon, daring which rain fell, the weather proved favorable for the holidays. The Volunteers of Nelson, Marlborough, and the Bay districts have had three days' good training;- Tiey were divided into defending and attacking forces, and carried out sfcanu fighting over about 20 miles of country, ihifting camps each night, and haying the baggage, carts, etc., with them. After each attack Col. Owen criticised the movements, pointing out where better work might have been done, thus making the whole work beneficial to the officers and men. The Volunteers had hard work skirmishing in the rain from about six till noon, when they broke off, after haying been complimented by Major Littlejohn, and cheers between the Nelson and Marlborough men haying been exchanged.
