GOVERNMENT SCHOOL, BLENHEIM.

On Wednesday last, the third annual distribution of Prizes to the pupils took place at the Goverment School, Blenheim, in the presence of a large number of visitors.

S. L. Muller, Esq., R.M., presided, and after complimenting the children on their clean and orderly appearance, he exhorted them in a kind and simple eloquence to persevere in the prosecution of their studies, pointing out the advantages of knowledge over ignorance and the high honors and emoluments to which the youth of the present day may aspire. A considerable number of visitors were present, who appeared highly gratified by the talent displayed by several of the boys, whose recitation of some excellent selections of poetry was equally creditable to their teacher as to themselves. Dr. Muller distributed the prizes with some kind and appropriate remark to each of the young recipients, who walked back to their seats with faces beaming bright. Some illustrated papers (the gift of a gentleman present), were also distributed to those little ones who were too young to obtain prizes. Mr. J. M. Hutcheson moved a vote of thanks to Dr. Muller, which was seconded by Mr. Kissling, and warmly carried in “ three cheers for Dr. Muller.” Three cheers was then given for Mr. Morley, the master, and the proceedings were terminated with buns, milk, &c., after which the little ones departed to enjoy their Christmas holiday.
