MARLBOROUGH LODGE OF UNANIMITY, 1236.
The 16fch November, A.n. 1869, will be long remembered by the members of the Masonic craft as the day on which, under the above title, the first Lodge in this Province was opened, at Hears’ Masonic Hotel, Blenheim, where apartments have been suitably, and we may add splendidly prepared for their use. The customary ceremonial used on such occasions was performed by Dr Squires of Nelson, Mr. Marks of Wellington, and Mr. Sklaark of Blenheim, the three Past Masters called for that purpose ; when Mr. John Kissling was duly installed as W.M. In the evening a banquet was held to which Masons only were admitted, consequently we are unable to report the eloquent speeches which we feel sure graced the festive occasion. From what has reached us, the new Lodge, which is under the English Constitution, opens with a goodly number of members, and of a kind likely to do credit to the order. On Thursday Dr. Squires, who had in the most handsome manner attended at personal inconvenience, was escorted out of town by most of the members, accompanied by the brass band, and on arriving at the Opawa Bridge, saluted him with ringing cheers, after which he addressed a few parting words of encouragement, and took his departure for Nelson. The hearty manner in which he was met by every mason present showed the great esteem in which he was held by them.
