HAVELOCK
( From our Own Last Tuesday, Nov. 2, a meeting was held at the Court House to elect six members to form a Town Board for Havelock, when Sergeant Adams offered every facility to carry out the proceedings. Mr. J. H. Smith was called to the chair, and briefly opened the meeting, which was well attended, although there are only nine or ten bona fide voters on the roll. The gentlemen elected were Messrs. J. H. Smith, T. Brown, W. Douslin, G. E. Levien, Fear, and Hutcheson. Should the Board, when in working order, carry out things in the same spirit of friendship as this, we may expect to see some good done speedily. As regards Provincial affairs, Mr. D. Parker, from the Sound, is in the field, and has been up to Deep Creek. Messrs. Douslin and Levien are in the field. I have also heard that Mr. Morgan, of Deep Creek, will come forward ; but as he is not on the roll, but simply possesses a miner’s right, which conveys the privilege of voting only (see the Miners’ Representation Act, 1862), he cannot stand as a candidate —a matter of regret, as he would make a good repre sentative.
