Another magnificent crushing of specimens from the Long Drive Claim has taken place, the result being 3oz. Isdwts. to the pound, or a total of 7-59 oza. of gold to 200 lbs of stone. Another dividend is to be paid this week. A long letter has been addressed to the editor of the Thames Advertiser by Mr. Mackay, late Civil Commissioner, defending himself from certain statements made in reference to an alleged partnership between him and Dr. Pollen.
The s.s. Blackbird, from Melbourne, came into harbour on Saturday evening—having taken the place of the s.s. Hero, which is laid up under repairs. She brought seventy passengers and a large general cargo She did not call at Sydney
as expected, and consequently about 100 passengers were left to wait for the next boat. It is thought that the A.S.N. Co. will put on a steamer. Several of the claims at the Thames have struck very good leaders within the last day or two. Some splendid specimens have been brought to town. It is again asserted that Te Hira is willing to open up the Upper Thames for gold digging purposes. If so there will be a great rush from Auckland.
