Wellington, Friday, 6 p.m. 'The trials of the Native Rebel Prisoners oil board the Hulk has commenced. Eight are put up at a time. Tauroa, who is considered the greatest scoundrel of all, has been admitted Queen’s evidence. The Mauawatu laud question has been finally settled. The decision-of the Court completely vindicated Featherston’s conduct in purchasing j 6,000 acres were set apart by him as a reserve for the non-settlers; 6,201) acres has been awarded out of .250,000 acres, and the whole of the native title is now declared extinguished. The first batch of eight rebels were found guilty of high treason this morning, the jury were locked up over four hours. All the Ministers are still absent with the exception of Mr. Gisborne. The wrecked Taranaki is now being towed up the Narrows.
